The Flash Gordon; Will it Pay Off?

From my last two blog posts, you may have been able to assume the teams I root for. The Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and the Patriots. But more than anything, I will go to my death bet cheering for the wonderful New England Patriots; the most controversial, and easiest team to root for since 2001. They’ve been a force to be reckoned with since their dynamic duo took the reigns of the organization, Brady and Belichick. They’ve had great offensive players come through the team including Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman. Brought up through the system or not, it’s attractive to play with the best quarterback to ever live. And as Josh Gordon got cut from the Browns, he had that same realization. I need to play with the best.

The Patriots have had a history of experimenting with players. Belichick has brought in people like Chad Ochocinco, Tim Tebow, and most recently Josh Gordon. A marvelous talent with a troubled past, Josh Gordon is one of the best athletes in the NFL, and when on the field is a Calvin Johnson like unstoppable force. But he’s not always out there on Sunday’s.

Josh Gordon struggled with substance abuse, suspensions, and depression. It’s been a tough go for him when looking at his career as a whole. He’s been placed in arguably the worst team in professional sports the past 6 years, the Cleveland Browns, and they haven’t been any help to his development as a person and a player. But the Patriots have an opportunity to capitalize on Josh Gordon’s potential. The public may say it’s a safe bet to say he’ll figure it out in Foxborough, but I wouldn’t be too sure. He needs to be controlled as an individual before he can be coached on the field. Belichick isn’t the most personable coach, as he goes for more of a scared straight approach. They even put his locker directly next to Tom Brady’s. But if that’s what it takes to whoop Josh Gordon into Pro Bowl shape, I think everyone involved will be just fine with that.

Go Pats, and good look to Josh Gordon. I look forward to keeping up with your season.
